TREY'S TOP 5 ALBUMS OF 2007
#1 Album: MIA - Kala
Song: Paper Planes
Great production, catchy lyrics, strong political commentary, and shows at Treasure Island and the Fillmore to back it all up, MIA sounds totally polished in what is only her second album. While she won’t be a household name until 2008, she has made the most impressive album of 2007.
#2 Album: Against Me! - New Wave
Song: Stop!
WHY THIS ALBUM IS ON YOUR LIST:
New Wave is solid; just very well put together. The first six tracks in particular go together really well. Militant, smart, and liberal use of exclamation points.
#3 Album: Sigur Ros - Hvarf – Heim
Song: Hljómalind
Hvarf – Heim is a comprehensive sampling of Sigur Ros’ most beautiful music. In addition to some of the most impressive and crystal clear live performances you will ever hear, this album contains unreleased studio cuts, including some from their pre-breakthrough days, that blow away almost everything else we’ve heard this year.
#4 Album: The Shins - Wincing the Night Away
Song: Phantom Limb
Another album that just goes together really well as a whole…
#5 Album: Smashing Pumpkins - Zeitgeist
Song: Zeitgest
It only takes about one minute into ‘Doomsday Clock’, the album’s opening track, to tell that Billy Corgan was serious when he said he wanted his band back. While the ‘TheFutureEmbrace’ and Zwan may have had us bracing for the worst with an Iha and Darcy-less Pumpkins, Corgan and Chamberlain have managed to make the best Pumpkins disc since Mellon Collie. Eleven shows at the Fillmore might have helped persuade me too.
