LIVE 105
BFD 2008 - Meet the Bands!

ABOUT THE LINE UP:

CYPRESS HILL - Since the group's formation in 1988, the pioneering rap quartet Cypress Hill -- founders B-Real, DJ Muggs, and Sen Dog, along with latest member Eric Bobo -- have come a long way from the streets of South Gate, CA (where they also adopted their name—most of the members lived on Cypress Ave). Over the course of its 19-year history, Cypress Hill has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, including more than 9 million records in the U.S. alone and tracks like “Insane In The Brain” and “Rock Superstar” continue to be staples of LIVE 105’s playlist.  In 2008, Cypress Hill continue to break down the musical and cultural barriers between hip-hop, alternative, metal, rock, reggae, ska and Latin music and you’ll see this in action when Cypress Hill headline the Bud Light Festival Stage at BFD 08.

EVERLAST - Once best known for his tenure in the alternative rap unit House of Pain, Everlast successfully reinvented himself in 1998 with the best-selling Whitey Ford Sings the Blues, a largely acoustic, hip-hop-flavored effort that featured the LIVE 105 hits “What It’s Like” and “Ends.”  Everlast has also worked with numerous artists and producers throughout his career, including Run DMC, X-Ecutioners, Xzibit, Carlos Santana, Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, Ice-T, Prodigy and many more.  Everlast plans to release "Love, War and the Ghost of Whitey Ford", a new album, on June 24th.

PENNYWISE - So. Cal punk rock legends make their first return to the Bay Area in 4 years and the boys will be armed with a blistering new record in their live arsenal 'Reason To Believe,' to go along with other fist pumping, West Coast mosh-pit anthems from a career that spans over 9 albums. Pennywise recently parted ways with punk rock kingpins Epitaph Records and are the first signing to the newly launched Myspace Records.

FLOGGING MOLLY - To say that Celtic-punk rock faves have amassed a ravenous and loyal fanbase over the years would be the understatement of the year. This seven-piece LA outfit just dropped their 4th studio album 'Float' -featuring the Live 105 smash 'Requiem for a dying song'- only a few weeks ago and the record has already sold over 105,000 albums! (amazingly debuting at #4 on the top 200 Billboard album charts to boot!) Flogging Molly recorded their latest album in Ireland with Ryan Hewitt, who engineered and mixed 'Stadium Aracadium' by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

ALKALINE TRIO - Chicago underground rock hero's return to BFD 2008 for their second tour of duty and will be breaking out a bevy of brand new selections from their highly-anticipated forthcoming record 'Agony and Irony,' which drops on July 1. This beloved tattoo clad trio, which originally hit the punk rock circuit back in 1996, have dropped eight albums to date on labels such as Asian Man Records and Vagrant. Impressively, this windy city threesome have cultivated an army of hardcore fans and also have delivered a spattering of Live 105 hits over the years as well, including 'Stupid Kid', 'We've Been Had' and 'Time to Waste.' The brand spanking new track 'Help Me' is already blowing up the station request lines with just a few soundcheck spins under its belt and is sure to be a candidate for one of the biggest songs of Summer 2008 .

THE KOOKS -  the pride of Brighton, England and one of the top UK acts of today, this new britrock 4-piece will be making their first Bay Area appearance of 2008 at BFD!  Their sophomore effort 'Konk' which lands in-stores on April 14 and harbors the infectiously additive first single 'Always where i Need To Be" follows their massively successful 2006 gold debut album 'Inside in/Inside out,' which produced one of that years biggest modern rock tracks with 'Naive.' The Kooks toured with The Rolling Stones in 2006 and now are at the level where they continually sell-out 'Bill Graham Civic-sized' venues across Europe.

ANTI-FLAG -  politically charged punk rock fiends also make their return to the festival stage @ BFD fresh off a sold-out Fillmore show last week and on the heels of the release of their brand new album 'The Bright Lights of America', which is their 8th.  This Pittsburg, PA four-piece amazingly channels the spirit and intensity of such hardcore staples as minor threat, black flag and the circle jerks as well as a respectful nod to the clash and generation X. Anti-Flag are also fervently passionate about several political issues, contributing music to such compilations as 'Rock Against Bush, Vol 1" and "Protect: A Benefit for the national association to protect children," both released via SF's Fat Wreck Chords, as well as being relentless supporters of animal rights. (please no Hot Dogs in the Mosh Pit, only Tofu Dogs allowed during Anti-Flag's set, thank you)

MGMT -  emerging out of the vibrant Brooklyn art-rock music scene, which also embodies such notable acts as vampire weekend, tv on the radio, yeah yeah yeahs and les savy fav, BFD 2008 will be the first opportunity for most of our Live 105 listeners to catch one of the most talked about and blogged about new buzz bands to hit the radio airwaves this year! mgmt have already sold-out Bottom Of The Hill and Slim's here in SF and we're thrilled to bring them to the festival stage @ the Shoreline on June 7. The bands debut album and Rick Ruben endorsed  'Oracular Spectacular, which features the genius leftfield hit 'Time To Pretend,' is a psychedelic and trippy musical homage to everything from Pink Floyd and Flaming Lips to Spiritualized and Beck.

ATREYU -  Orange County rockers will definitely be bringing the RAWK to the festival stage with their hard-hitting, face melting and adrenaline-laced brand of nu-metalcore for da the BFD revelers. Atreyu, which established themselves as one of the leaders of the underground metal/post-hardcore scene back in 2002 with the release of their debut album on seminal independent label Victory Records, have toured with a litany of bands and festivals, including avenged sevenfold, linkin park, projekt revolution, taste of chaos and the warped tour.  The band released their major label debut in late 2007 'Lead Sails Paper Anchor' through Hollywood Records, and it crashed into the top 200 billboard album sales charts at #8 moving over 43,000 cds first week. The Live 105 championed track 'Falling Down,' which sonically reminds us a bit of the great Rocket From The Crypt meets Green Day, is currently a top 5 track on the national Modern Rock radio charts.

THE WHIGS - from the storied Athens, Georgia music scene, which has produced such modern rock luminaries as R.E.M., B-52's and mega producer superstar Danger Mouse of Gnarls Barkley fame, comes this new indie rock 3-piece that we strongly recommended arriving early at the shoreline to catch on June 7. the band just released their second album 'Mission Control' from the same people that brought you Radiohead and My Morning Jacket -ATO records- and if you have a penchant for bands like Husker Du, Wilco, The Raconteurs and Kings of Leon, then you'd definitely be down with the sounds of the Whigs!! Finally, the band houses one of the sickest and most insane drummers in all of rock Julian Doro (like an indie rock Keith Moon or Animal of The Muppets) and he was appropriately awarded an Esky in 2007 as "Best Drummer" by Esquire magazine.

flobotsFLOBOTS -  really dope new musical project out of Denver, Colorado, featuring an interesting collaboration of sucker emcees, a violist, a trumpet player and some cool cats from a funk band. this relatively new collective just dropped one of the most 'reactive' records we've heard in quite sometime with the quirky and uber-hip groove 'Handlebars' which has already generated #1 phones for Live 105 after its discovery on radio soundcheck. This will be the bands first live performance in the Bay Area.

AIRBORNE TOXIC EVENT -  Los Angeles 5-piece that make epically dark, cinematic and anthemic indie rock similar to Arcade Fire, Echo & The Bunnymen and Interpol and feature one of the most requested new radio soundcheck songs of 2008 with 'Sometime Around Midnight' This new and emerging independent act have generated an avalanche of music industry buzz and were subsequently just snatched up by the same reputable management team that also manage Coldplay, Serj Tankian and the aforementioned Interpol.

MIDDLE CLASS RUT -  hottest new band to ascend out of the Sacramento music scene since, uh, Tesla. Plan on arriving shortly after doors open to BFD 2008 to catch one of Aaron Axelsen's and Miles the Intern's favorite new acts of the year as this exciting and electrifying two-piece, which deftly invoke the sounds of Deftones, Fugazi, Refused and early Janes Addiction, officially kick off the festival stage with an exclamation point.

MOBY -  New York’s world renowned DJ is coming back to the bay area headlining this year’s Scion Subsonic tent.  His 1999 release Play has sold over 9 million copies worldwide. This year he is back with his 7th studio album, Last Night which features more tracks to dance to.
